The Life Skills Faculty aims to prepare pupils for life beyond Emerson Park School by giving them the skills and knowledge to participate fully in society and the world of work.

  • Edexcel Health and Social Care (Double Award)
  • Edexcel B-Tec Workskills
  • AQA Short Course Enterprise and Employability
  • AQA short course Project Qualification

Citizenship

Citizenship gives pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels. Pupils become aware of their rights and responsibilities and become more aware of our economy and political institutions. Pupils are also encouraged to voice their opinions in an appropriate manner.
 
KEY STAGE 3
 
Pupils study Citizenship for one hour per fortnight. The themes studied are:
  • Government
  • Law and Crime
  • Human Rights
  • Global Community
  • Media
  • Racism
  • Pressure Groups
  • Economy
Pupils are also encouraged to participate actively within the school and local community, by raising money and awareness of topical issues
 
Pupils are assessed in Years 7 & 8 by way of two projects:
  • Towns and Cities
  • A Topical Problem
In Year 9 pupils complete one large investigation on a Topical Problem.
 
KEY STAGE 4
 
Pupils study the OCR GCSE short course in Citizenship Studies. The themes studied are:-
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Identity Democracy & Justice
The course is assessed as follows:
  • 60%        Examination
  • 40%        Coursework
Pupils also have the option to study the full GCSE in Citizenship Studies. This further extends the themes above and encourages pupils to lead the way as active citizens.
