Year 9 Option Choices
If your son or daughter has not been spoken to with regard to their option choices for next year, then they can assume we have been able to meet their option requirements. Where we had difficulty meeting all three choices we have discussed this with them to find a solution. I thank all the pupils and parents for being so supportive and co-operative during this process.
Controlled Assessments
If your child is in Year 10 or Year 11 they will be sitting Controlled Assessments. These Controlled Assessments largely replace coursework in some subject areas. Controlled Assessments means students produce work in lessons, under exam like conditions, over a specified number of hours. IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT THEY WILL MISS THE CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT HOURS THAT ENABLE THEM TO ACHIEVE THEIR BEST GRADES. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME AS THE ALLOCATED HOURS CAN NOT BE CAUGHT UP AT A LATER DATE.
School Achievements
This term we have enjoyed a huge range of successes. Most recently we have celebrated our Annual Awards Evening. The evening celebrated the achievements of individual students throughout the year. Over 200 Awards were presented by Mr James Williams a three times Olympian, Commonwealth Gold medallist and British Fencing Champion.
Once again this year we had an enjoyable Sports Day with excellent weather. This launched our National Sports activity week. Numerous school records were set and Hepworth House won the day with Cavell in second place. Fun and House spirit filled the day. Congratulations again to the PE Department for
co-ordinating such a spirited day.
An annual and ever popular event in the School’s Calendar is the Year 11 Prom. This evening usually proves to be a glamorous affair and this year’s Prom was no exception. All our Year 11s looked very ‘grown-up’ and ready to leave
Mrs Adams, Mrs Hill, Mrs Pearson and Mr Donaldson for organising such a stunning evening.
Senior Prefects
I would like to offer my personal thanks for all the dedication that the former Senior Prefects,
Luke Hiller-Addis, Lina Jovaisaite, Jack Drewett and Chelsea Sharp have given to their roles and we all wish them every success in the future. It is now with great pleasure that I announce the results of the recent interviews for the new Senior Prefects. It was a particularly difficult and protracted procedure this year due to the exceptionally high standard of application and, indeed of candidate. I pass on the thanks of the interview panel to all the candidates who put themselves forward and did themselves such credit. It really was a most difficult decision. Farewells and Congratulations
As is regrettable but understandable at the end of any school term we have to say goodbye to members of our staff team here at
Mrs Perkins - I wish to take this opportunity to personally thank Mrs Perkins for all her hard work and dedication to the School. Mrs Perkins loyally served the School as Deputy Head teacher since
1st September 1994. Since then she has been an invaluable source of advice and support to me in my Headship. I wish her well as she continues in her role as a Professional Tutor for newly qualified teachers.
Mr Rautenbach (Teacher of Science) - We wish Mr Rautenbach every success on his charity fund raising journey across
I would also like to welcome back from Maternity Leave:
Mrs Day
Mrs Goodyear
Mrs Bolton
New Staff members
The following members of staff will be joining us in September 2010:
Mr A Akpoza – Teacher of Mathematics
Miss C Smith – Teacher of Science
Miss L Frost – Teacher of English
Mrs K Ganesh – Teacher of Science
Miss E Chandler - Teacher of Cultural Studies
The school re-opens on Monday, 6th September for a staff training day. All pupils return to school on Tuesday, 7th September. Our new Year 7 pupils are to arrive at school for registration at 8.50 a.m. and will finish at the normal time of 3.30 p.m. The remainder of our students will arrive at the later time of
11.10 a.m. and will also finish at 3.30 .pm. This staggered start is designed to give the new Year 7 intake some time to orientate themselves before the rest of the school arrive on their first day. I emphasise that this arrangement is for the 7th September only.
May I remind parents that all pupils should return in September in winter uniform. No jewellery will be allowed under any circumstances and, please, whilst purchasing shoes for your child, be aware that these should be smart, of the type that would be worn at formal occasions; not trainers/plimsolls of any type.
May I end by wishing you all a very enjoyable summer break and look forward to seeing everybody well rested and ready to learn in September.
Yours sincerely,
K S Walsh
